"Aw, I ain't explainin' it right," Hawk mumbled.

"I get t' gist," Teige told him with a grin, seemingly forgetting about whatever had made him look back. "'M happy for yeh, Sunshine. If anything deserves a bit o' luck, it's you."

They found themselves alone on some empty street when the bells came ringing down out of the night again, before fading away.

"Wassat t'en, midnight bells already?" Teige said.

"Fuckin, time flies, I guess," Hawk replied unsteadily, as they headed towards a lit archway. "Could ya eat?"

"I could eat," Teige agreed. "One a' Vlad's pals works a soup place around here somewheres, do you wanna--oof--"

Hawk had stopped quite suddenly, and Teige had walked straight into him. He didn't move; Teige leaned around him, squinting to see what he was looking at.
