"I suggested it, okay, because I dunno how else to help you with these night terrors you been havin' since I got here," Hawk said, and gestured helplessly. "Shit's beyond me, all right."

"You wake up too, though," Liya replied. "I hear you get up. An' you din't used to need that radio to sleep," she added, pointing to where it was hanging on the wall, still quietly issuing static.

Hawk didn't seem to have a good reply for that. Instead he reached for the jar full of glowing things, muttering, "Let's talk about this in the morning."

"Fine," Liya said shortly, and rolled over onto her back, pillowing her head on her arms. Hawk pulled the jar towards him; it had a dark cloth cover bunched up around the lid, which he started to pull down over the jar to dim the light. For a moment, Liya said nothing, before commenting, "But I worry, is all."

He looked over the glow of the jar at her. She stared at the ceiling, and continued, "You won't tell me all a' what happened to you, and maybe you shouldn't, okay. But I can tell it was bad. An' I know you real good, Hawk. I'm worried you'll just keep it all in 'til it chews you up."

That stirred something--Numair had said almost exactly the same thing.

"And I don't want that to happen," Liya said, and turned over again, away from Hawk, "'Cuz I love you, and you deserve better."
