Our protagonist--a cyborg who calls himself 'Poet'--cannot recall anything before the day he woke up in the middle of the desert, surrounded by corpses.
With no memories, no purpose and no idea what the hell is going on, he sets out to find answers.
"What the--oh shit," the man said, after casting a look into the rear-view mirror. As he spoke, a pair of beady orange eyes blinked open in the back of the car. "It's that guy we was tellin' you about. Look at 'im, the mother fucker."
The large beady-eyed black-furred creature in the backseat of the car lunged forward, gripping the driver seat with taloned paws. "Unlock the back door, Tony," he snarled, his lips drawn back over a seat of huge sharp teeth. "I'm gonna--"
"What?" Tony sneered, flinching away from the creature's jaws in his pointed ear. "Let 'im knock out more 'a your teeth? I'm good."
The black-furred creature sank back somewhat, glaring. One of his long canine teeth was in fact missing. "You wanna let him get away with messin' with us??" he demanded.
"Uh, yeah," Tony replied.
"That's definitely your same guy?"
The black-furred creature whipped his head around to look at the speaker, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, and who was opening his window. "One hunnerd percent," he said.
The speaker reached over to adjust the side mirror, so he could see Hawk more easily. He was slim and human-shaped, and the only part of him that was visible was the stripe of his face above his surgical mask and below his hood. What was there was pale, bloodless grey skin, and a pair of almond-shaped, glass-green eyes with slit pupils.
"Well, I'll be damned," he said, watching Hawk walk away. "Small worlds."
