Hawk spun, eyes darting for the source of the voice.
The dock was empty, but for him. He glanced around, so sure that he had heard something...
The radio went on. "--no shots have been fired yet," a female voice was saying. "There is very little activity right now on the boardwalk; things are basically at a standstill between the KIRU unit on scene and the demons."
Hawk looked away, disgruntled. Hallucinations? Great. Good.
"But now we're getting word of another incident," the radio said. "Not even an hour ago witnesses saw a winged demon attack two police officers, while another strange demon attacked passerby without warning."
Hawk glanced again towards the docks, clipping the radio to the strap of his bag. No one moved on the docks, still. A thunderhead lumbered in from the south; wind ripped at the trees. But no one moved.
"Between that and the current standoff, and the numerous other violent skirmishes this week across the island--"
Resigned, Hawk turned and took a running leap off the docks, wings dragging unwillingly at the air.
"--you just can't help but wonder if we're in for a full-scale war."
